Spring is in the air.
The warmth and the fresh seasonal rain has everyone itching to head outside.
Vegetable gardens are taking root, perennials are prepped, and early bloomers, like tulips, have already displayed their colorful petals.
Whether you are brand new to gardening or consider yourself a certified plant specialist, Family Tree Nursery is an oasis for your green thumb.
As soon as you arrive at their Liberty location, just off 291 Highway, you’re greeted by relaxing outdoor décor and seasonal favorites that are ripe for the planting.
Walking through the doors is an experience. Indoors, you’ll find pots, soils, fertilizers, and succulents in a space that feels like a fairy tale. If you’re looking for a little greenery for your desk, to liven up your bathroom, or a gift, they’ve got it there. Wandering outside, you will find outdoor varieties - including a vast assortment of trees, bushes, and flowers.
One of the best parts about Family Tree is that it is a family-owned and operated business.
More than 60 years ago, a young dental student named Ron Nelson switched his major to follow his dream. He transferred to the horticultural program at Kansas State University and the rest is history.
Family Tree opened its doors at its Overland Park location in 1964. Nearly 20 years later, they acquired the Shawnee and Liberty locations. Over the years, they have expanded their growing operation and now have more than 6 acres of greenhouse space.
The locally-owned family business has continued to grow with Ron’s son, Eric, at the lead. Their passion for plants and helping people grow their garden is clear.
And their staff wants to make sure you’re equipped with the information and tools to care for them. It’s not like going into a big-box store and picking up what catches your eye. Family Tree grows many of their own plants. They put the seeds in the soil and cultivate them to the beauty that you are purchasing.
