The sun is shining and soon the smell of fresh-cut grass and smoking grills will fill the air. Our summer calendar is full of family friendly events! So, come visit Liberty and enjoy the warmer weather with us. Kick off your summer by attending a few of these events, all happening in June.

Clay County Bicentennial Celebration

When: Saturday, June 4 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Where: Historic Downtown Liberty (on Main Street)

Celebrate Clay County’s 200th birthday with fun for the whole family. There will be an unveiling of the 1972 time capsule, live music, puppet shows, face painting and frozen treats to entertain all ages. This event is hosted by the Historic Downtown Liberty, Inc. and everyone is encouraged to wear red, white and blue.

Bicentennial Celebration


Quilt Walk

When: Saturday, June 18 at 10 a.m.
Where: Historic Downtown Liberty

Join this event hosted by Quilting Is My Therapy by exploring participating downtown Liberty businesses to admire vintage quilts, multi-generational quilts and modern quilts. Each shop will provide a free quilt block pattern, designed by internationally known quilter, Angela Walters, and instructions to make a quilt of your own.

Art on the Side

When: June 11 from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Where: The Artisan Market, located at 118 North Main Street, Suite B and the First Presbyterian Church parking lot

Explore this art festival featuring the work of over 50 artists and artisan vendors. This is an outdoor event with music, food, an interactive art space and art demonstrations. Come participate in a new creative process and find something beautiful to take home with you.

Make Music Day

When: Tuesday, June 21
Where: Venues, Parks and other public areas throughout Liberty - performances are typically concentrated in the downtown Liberty area.

Originating in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now an international event. On June 21, Liberty and the Liberty Arts Commission will join more than 1,000 cities worldwide as we mark the beginning of summer with Make Music Liberty, a citywide festival of music. You can find musicians of all ages and all genres gathering to play and celebrate music at our local parks, businesses and other community gathering spaces.

Moonlight Yoga

When: June 14 at 9:45 p.m. and June 21 at 5:45 a.m. (summer solstice sunrise yoga). There is typically one Moonlight Yoga event per month, May - September
WhereStocksdale Park, on the lawn near the horse shoe arena

Liberty Parks & Rec has partnered with Serenity on the Square to offer Moonlight Yoga at Stocksdale Park.  Moonlight Yoga is a monthly benefit for the off-leash dog park instructed and coordinated by Patti Stark, owner of Serenity on the Square. Bring your mat or blanket and meet in the grassy area near the trail by the horse shoe arena.

Popcorn in the Park

When: June 10, fun and games start at 6 p.m., movie around 8:45 p.m.
Where: Bennett Park
Featured Movie: Sing 2

Bring your family and friends, along with your blankets and lawn chairs, and head out to one of Liberty's parks to enjoy a FREE movie on the big screen, under the stars. Liberty Parks & Rec will provide popcorn and water. Moviegoers are encouraged to make an evening of it and bring a picnic, lawn chairs and blankets. Please remember, alcohol is not allowed in Liberty’s parks.
