How to Ease into Pickleball for Fun in Liberty

Posted on April 4, 2025 at 11:03 AM by Brenda Geiger

For the third year in a row, pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America. The small courts reduce your need to run from side to side like you must in tennis, which courts are four times the size of a Pickleball court.

Pickleball is fun for all ages. More than a million active seniors play pickleball weekly. While the biggest age group is 25-34, 60% of players are 55 or older, and 34% are 65 or older.

If you live or work in Liberty, Mo., there are 10 pickleball courts.

Westboro Canterbury Park Pickleball Courts

Play on one of eight outdoor concrete courts at Westboro Canterbury Park, located at 1030 S. Withers in Liberty, Mo. The courts at Westboro-Cantebury Park require no reservations, and are a great place to meet like-minded players who may need a fourth.

Drop by for a game anytime between 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The community center is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Benefits of Playing Pickleball

Pickleball is a fun and exciting way to stay active and socialize with friends and neighbors. Playing three times a week for 60 minutes can burn 1,440 to 1,980.

Pickleball engages all muscle groups. You'll use core muscles to rotate your trunk to reach for shots. Your triceps, biceps, forearms, and shoulder muscles are used throughout a match. And, when you run around the courts through the game, you'll build your quads and hamstring strength.

Because of the social aspect, pickleball reduces depression and cardiovascular disease.

If you want to build confidence by taking lessons before hitting the courts, you can find an instructor on Pickleheads.
