Nothing tastes more like nostalgia than a giant ice cream cone.
Ice cream's origins are known to reach back as far as the second century B.C., although no specific date of origin nor inventor has been indisputably credited with its discovery. It’s hard to imagine a day when you couldn’t grab a cone, but the modern production of ice cream and the traditional American ice cream shoppe didn’t come about until the mid-1800s.
Thankfully, we can enjoy ice cream in pretty much any way imaginable today. In Liberty, a family trip to a local ice cream shop is the perfect ending to a day spent in the summer sun.
Here are some of our favorite places to enjoy a sweet treat in Liberty.
Sheridan’s Frozen Custard
Location: 602 S Rte 291, Liberty MO
Website
Located right off Highway 291, it's hard to drive past this long-standing Liberty establishment and not swing through the drive-thru. With a menu of mix-ins and combinations to inspire your sweet tooth, there’s something for everyone. If you’re looking to try something new, order one of their seasonal specials (fresh baked strawberry shortcake sundae, anyone?). Or if you’re looking for an oldie-but-a-goodie, grab the Dirt & Worms, Sheridan’s take on the classic Cookies and Cream.
Uni’s Boba & Fun Rolls Ice Cream
Location: 824b Rte 291, Liberty, MO
Facebook Page
Over the decades, ice cream has taken many forms - from traditional scoops to soft serve, to cakes and sandwiches. And at Uni’s you can find ice cream in rolls. Yep, you read that right: ice cream rolls! Mix-ins are cut, chopped, and mashed on a frozen slab. Then, cream is added and spread. Once the creation has reached the proper freezing point, it is sliced off the slab, and rolled into a beautiful treat that’s almost too pretty to eat. The team at Uni’s is always experimenting with new creations, but we recommend the Strawberry Cheesecake fun rolls for your next visit.
Baskin Robbins
Location: 118 N Conistor St, Liberty MO
Website
Since their inception in 1945, Baskin Robbins has offered a rotating 31 flavors of ice cream in their more than 8,000 locations across 50 countries. The original idea was a flavor of ice cream for each day of the month. These days the 31-flavors tagline is so ingrained in their identity that once you look at their logo, you can’t unsee it. When you come by, be sure to try their take on the most classic flavors by ordering a scoop of Gold Medal Ribbon - chocolate and vanilla ice cream with a caramel ribbon.
La Dulzura Creamery
Location: 603E Rte 291, Liberty, MO
Facebook Page
As you’ve probably already discovered, there’s more than a few ways to enjoy ice cream. One visit to La Dulzura Creamery will have you drooling over their Mexican spin on this sweet treat. When you pop in, try a scoop of Limoneada, a frozen citrus delight that will have your tastebuds singing. Oh, and don’t miss out on their full menu of frozen treats including popsicles and smoothies!
Culver’s
Location: 1905 W Kansas St., Liberty, MO
Website
If you’re looking to please a variety of folks, Culver’s is the place to go. A full menu of custards and mix-ins are available, along with cones, and our favorite - a mouthwatering take on a nostalgic classic, a root beer float. The root beer float has been a cultural favorite since soda shops and penny cones. The delicious taste of classic root beer combined with the delight of vanilla ice cream can sure take you back in time.
As summer sets in and you head out to explore the sites, come beat the heat with a sweet treat in Liberty.
