Five Ideas to Soak Up the Rest of Your Summer

Posted on August 11, 2022 at 9:38 AM by Claire Rodgers

Don't trade your flip-flops for your favorite pair of jeans just yet. While there are only a few short weeks of summer left before school begins here in Liberty, there are plenty of ways to pack in the fun. Here are five ways to soak up the last sparkling days of summer.

Ruth Moore Park Splash Pad

Located just a few blocks from the historic downtown Liberty business district, this fire-house-themed splash pad is directly across the street from Liberty's original Fire Station 1. Escape the heat with several water features that spray, mist and dump water, providing fun for all ages. Bring your cups, buckets and other water toys to enjoy. Dry off at the Ruth Moore Park playground, situated next to the splash pad. It was renovated in 2019 and features a 100-foot Tarzan zip line your kiddos will surely enjoy.

The splash pad is free and open to the public every day from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m., but will close for the season on Labor day, so be sure to splash in the fun before then.

Popcorn in the Park

Nothing quite captures the magic of summer like a movie alongside the fireflies and summer night sky. Pack up your friends, family, blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy a movie under the stars. Popcorn and water will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your favorite movie snacks (please note alcohol is prohibited at all Liberty parks). Liberty Parks & Rec will be screening Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Fun and games start at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk, around 8 p.m.

This free event will take place at the Capital Federal Sports Complex of Liberty.

Moonlight Yoga

Liberty Parks & Rec has partnered with Serenity on The Square to offer this monthly event to benefit the off-leash dark park located at Stocksdale Park. Bring your mat or blanket to the open green space near the horse shoe arena for some yoga and stretching. There are two Moonlight Yoga sessions remaining this summer - Thursday, Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 10 at 8:30 p.m.

While this event is free, a donation to the Liberty Dog Park would be greatly appreciated. Treat yourself while helping our furry friends at this zenful end-of-summer event.

Sheridan's

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Sheridan's!

Sheridan's frozen custard invites all the summer nostalgia by pairing its tasty menu with its walk-up service. While they do offer a drive-through for the times you need your treats to go - like picking up one of their delicious custard pies. However, their sweets are best alongside friends and family on a provided bench or with your sun-kissed legs hanging off a parked truck bed. They are open 12 - 8 p.m. Monday - Friday and Saturday - Sunday until 9 p.m. Understandably, you might have a hard time deciding on a dessert. You might start with the wedding cake concrete that includes a real piece of cake mixed into your custard!

Hike A Park or Trail

Strap on your hiking boots and get out to one of Liberty's 13 parks housing over 14 hiking trails, all maintained by the City's Parks & Rec Department. Several trails are paved and make a picturesque background for walking or biking. Most of these trails are family-friendly and easy enough to bring the little ones along in a wagon, stroller or to bike and scoot around on their own. Pack a picnic and make the day of it. Several trails have playgrounds along the route and plenty of green space to escape a busy day and find refuge in nature.
